Melbourne Shwetambar Jain Sangh (MSJS) is pleased to invite you and your family for the celebration of Paryushan Mahaparva 2013 starting from 2nd September (Monday) to 9th September (Samvatsari - Monday) followed by Samooh Parna on 10th September (Tuesday).

 

Please note that we would have religious activities on 31st August (Saturday) and 1st September (Sunday)  weekend prior to Paryushan.

 

Let us all join together to celebrate the most auspicious festival of Jainism!!

Child Minding Facility

  • Please note that child minding facility would only be available from 2nd to 6th September (weeks days) during Pravachan(19.30 to 22.00).
  • Parents needs to use the RSVP form to notify us if they would like to use this facility for management to make appropriate arrangements.
  • Parents need to bring their own toys to keep child engaged.  

 

Religious Children Activity

Considering success of last two years stage activity for young children and encouragement it gave to our young ones, this year’s Paryushan committee has decided to provide same opportunity again to our young children. In addition to this, Paryushan committee is also pleased to announce similar competition Vaktrutva Spardha for Adults.

Children or group of children will have to prepare a Stuti, Sutra, Stavan, Jain Story or any other Jainism related material and present this on stage to the audience. The stage performance will take place on Sunday 8th September 2013 at 10:30 am please make sure you come on time. This competition will be for children under the age of 12 in two groups as below:

1.      Up to 7 years
2.      8 to 12 years

  • Each participant can perform up to maximum of 2 minutes.
  • Every child will receive participation gift.
  • Three best performers (as decided by team of judges) in each age group will receive prize
  • All parents are encouraged to prepare their children to present an item. This will provide children an opportunity to learn something about Jainism as well boost their confidence to present an item in front of many people.

 Since we have limited time for the competition there be will be limited spots on offer, registered participants only will be able to participate on first come first served basis.

Vaktrutva Spardha for Adults

Vaktrutva Spardha have been organized on 8th September, Sunday between 15:30 pm to 16:30 pm. 

Participants can speak on one of the topics for up to 3 minutes. Participants can speak in Hindi, English or Gujarati.

 Topics to choose from:

  1.     Paryushana na 5 kartavyas
  2.      Kshamapana 
  3.     Jeevdaya 
  4.     Ratri Bhojan & Kandmool Tyag
  5.     Pachchakkhaana 

Since we have limited time for the competition there be will be limited spots on offer, registered participants only will be able to participate on first come first served basis.

Chaitya Paripati/Pat Darshan

Chaitya Paripati is one of the Kartavyas of Paryushan which involves visiting multiple derasars after Samvatsari. 

Email will be sent out with further details.

 

Donate to support our community

MSJS solely depends on support from community members by way of attendance, contributions, donations and sponsorship.

The following are the Nakras for this event:

  • Mahavir Janm Vanchan Hall Sponsorship (Saturday) - $1001.00 each (Three nakra - different individuals can participate).
  • Hall Sponsorship (Sunday) - $1001.00 each (Two nakra - different individuals can participate).
  • Samvatsari Pratikramana Hall Sponsorship (Monday) -$1001 each (Three nakra - different individuals can participate).
  • Veer Sainik Bahuman -$1001 each (Three nakra - different individuals can participate).
  • Hall Sponshorship (Paryushan weekdays - 5 days except Samvatsari day) - $501.00 each (Two nakra - different individuals can participate).
  • Children Competition Gifts - $501.00.
  • Sadharmik Bhakti Swami Vatsalya - $301.00 for all meals (Many individuals can participate).
  • Sangh Prabhavna - $101.00 (Many individuals can participate).
  • Sangh Poojan - $101.00 (Many individuals can participate).

Important Notes

  • During Paryushana, ideally one shall perform 17 Pratikramanas - Morning & evening Pratikramana during the 8 days of Paryushana and morning Pratikramana on Tuesday, 10 September.
  • Anyone performing evening Pratikramana can't eat after sunset.
  • Anyone performing morning pratikramana must have stopped eating prior to sunset on previous day.
  • During Paryushana, one shall confine meal intake between Navkarshi & Sunset time and avoid eating root vegetables (& possibly green vegetables as well).
  • Anyone performing any tapasya (Ekasanu, Biyasanu, Upvas, Aayambil) must drink boiled water and have meals between Porsi & Sunset time only. It is also important to take appropriate pachchakhkhan.
  • Boiled Water: For every event, arrangement will be made for boiled drinking water for those who are fasting (Ekasanu, Biyasanu, Upvas, Aayambil).
  • Katasana and other gears: Please bring your own katasana and other things those who have. We have made arrangements for all those who do not have.
  • During Paryushan Derasar will be open from 5:30 AM for pooja.
  • Management committee reserves the right to amend any of the above programmes, should circumstances change, without advance notice.
