Melbourne Shwetambar Jain Sangh (MSJS) is pleased to invite you and your family to celebrate Parvadhiraj Paryushan Parva, starting from Thursday 6th September to Thursday 13th September 2018 (Samvatsari) followed by Samooh Parna on Friday 14th September and Tapasvi Satkaar (Bahumaan) on Saturday 15th September.

Please note that Bhagwan Mahavir Swami Janma Vaanchan Mahotsav/Supan Ucchamani has been organised on Monday, 10th September.

MSJS has organised "Shri Padmavati Poojan" on Saturday, 8th September at 9.30 AM. 

Padmavati Devi is the Shashan Devi and a devotee of Parshvanath Bhagwan. She shields devotees by removing hindrances from their paths, whether spiritual, physical or worldly obstacles.

We invite all families to be part of this Padmavati Poojan.

Poojan Details:

  • Vidhikarak: Shri Alpesh Bhai (Veer Sainik) and Shri Parambhai Shah will lead the Poojan.
  • Clothes: Poojan can be performed in clean clothes. Pooja clothes are not required.
  • Sitting arrangements: Family can sit together to perform the Poojan.
  • Sva Dravya: MSJS will provide required gears i.e. vasakshep, flowers etc. for Poojan. However, you are encouraged to use your own - Sva Dravya.
  • Yantra: Those who register for Poojan can bring their own Padmavati Yantra - Nakro $51.00. MSJS has also organised Yantra for those who needs one - Nakro $101.00. Please indicate your preference at the time of registration.

Paryushan 2018 RSVP

Meals RSVP: Number of people (including children over 5 yrs) you would like do RSVP for each meal.

Weekdays Chauvihar

Child Minding RSVP: Number of children you would like to do RSVP for each day.

In order to minimise food wastage or shortage, we are using this RSVP system. You will be required to pay a 100% REFUNDABLE deposit of AUD $10.00 per person per meal and $10 per child per child minding day at the time of doing RSVP. This deposit will be refunded on the day of the event.

If you wish to cancel your meal or child minding RSVP please email [email protected] by a day before the meal or child minding day that you would like to cancel for. Upon cancellation, RSVP deposit amount will be refunded at the meal counter.

If for ANY reason, you are unable to attend the meal after having paid the deposit and RSVP is not cancelled, money will be donated to our Shubh Sarva Sadharan account and same will NOT be refunded.

To continue with RSVP please complete the following steps

  1. Check the Payable Amount shown below
  2. Go to your internet banking website and deposit the Payable Amount to MSJS account

Paryushan 2018 Committee is working hard to help parents do the Paryushan aaradhana very well, which includes arranging child minding facility for your children during:

  • Pravachan time (19:30 to 22:00) on weekdays during Paryushan
  • Religious activity time (10:30 to 16:30) on Sunday 09/09/2018
  • Samvatsari Pratikraman time (13:00 to 17:00) on Thursday 13/09/2018

To facilitate this and to make appropriate arrangements, we request you to tell us which days your child/children will require this facility by filling up the RSVP form below.

To use this facility, parents will require to pay a 100% REFUNDABLE deposit of AUD $10.00 per child per day at the time of RSVP. This deposit amount will be refunded on the requested day.

Note:

  • RSVP is a must for any child attending this facility.
  • Every child needs to bring their toys, books, games etc. to keep him/herself engaged at the child minding facility.

MSJS solely depends on support from community members by way of attendance, contributions, donations and sponsorship.

The following are the Nakras for this event:

  • Sadharmik Bhakti $301 (Many individuals can participate)
  • Sangh Prabhavana $101 (Many individuals can participate)
  • Children Competition and Talent hunt Sponsorship $501 (Three individuals can take Labh)

  • During Paryushan, ideally one shall perform 17 Pratikraman - Morning & evening Pratikraman during the 8 days of Paryushan and morning Pratikraman on Parna day
  • Anyone performing evening Pratikraman must not eat after Sunset
  • Anyone performing morning Pratikraman must have stopped eating prior to Sunset on previous day
  • During Paryushan, one shall confine meal intake between Navkarshi & Sunset time and avoid eating green vegetables (Jain should not eat root vegetables)
  • Anyone performing any Tapasya (Ekasanu, Biyasanu, Upvas, Aayambil) must drink boiled water and have meals between Porsi & Sunset time only. It is also important to take appropriate Pachchakhkhan.
  • Boiled Water: For every event, arrangement will be made for boiled drinking water for those who are doing Tapasya.
  • Please bring your own Katasana and other Samayik gears if you have. We have made arrangements for all those who do not have.
  • During Paryushan, Derasar will be open from 5:30 AM for Pooja. Aarti will be done at 5:30 PM.
  • Derasar will be manglik from 11:30am to 19:00pm for Aangi Preparation on Samvatsari Day (Thu. 13-09-2018)

MSJS has always endeavoured to provide young children and adults the platform to learn and exhibit their skills and talents. This Paryushan, there will be three competition to showcase the talents. 

Only registered participants will be able to participate on first come first served basis so if you are interested in any of these competitions please submit your entry or an entry for your child by Sunday, 19th August 2018.

Registration form is common for all the competitions. Each participant, children as well as adult, need to submit their registration form separately.

Competition 1: Children Creative Canvas Artwork

We would like to encourage our young children to use their imagination and display it on the canvas. This art work on the given topics will then be showcased at our MSJS Centre. Children can draw, paint, and make it colourful using decorative things to create a masterpiece. In order to minimise administration time, parents are requested to purchase their own canvas board as per specification provided below. 
 
Age Group 1 (4 to 9):  
Children can put their idea which can be related to Bhagwan or Bhagwan nu Lanchhan (symbol of God).
 
Age Group 2 (10 to 18):
The theme should revolve around Jainism or/and its principles: 
For e.g. Mata Trishla -14 Swapna, Bhagwan nu Jivan Charitra, Temple
• Canvas size (25cm x 30cm)
• The artwork will be judged based on its creativity
• We have an intention to hang these paintings in the Centre to resemble the creativity of our future generation
• Any frames different than the given size 25cm x 30cm will not be considered for competition

• The Artwork must be submitted by Sunday, 26th August 2018 to Pathshala teachers in Eastern and Western suburbs
• The late entries will not be considered for the competition
• Three best artists (as decided by team of judges) will receive prize
• Each child will be given participation gift
• Encourage all children to complete 100% of painting themselves

Competition 2: MSJS Talent Hunt

Singing and Musical Instrument Play: MSJS is inviting young Shravak/Shravika to showcase their talent in singing/playing musical instruments.
 
Age Groups 1 (5 to 14)
Age Groups 2 (15 to 25)


• Auditions will be held on Saturday, 25th August 2018 at 10.00 am onward at MSJS Centre (A further email will be sent with the details)
• Finals will be held on Saturday, 8th September 2018
• Background live music will be available by AV team during finals only
• Any single tune/song or medley can be played - provided it qualifies under "Jainism Music / Song"
• Contestants will have max of 5 mins for performance
• Instrument play - It is participant's responsibility to bring their own musical instruments during the auditions and finals
• We may organise the practice session for selected finalists with music before the final performance
• Three best performers (as decided by team of judges) will receive prize
• Each participant will be given participation gift

Competition 3: Rangoli Competition

Rangoli is considered auspicious as it signifies showering of good luck and prosperity. This competition will be held during the festival of Paryushan.
 
• All adults (18 years+) allowed
• Space of 2ft x 2ft will be provided to each participant in Centre to prepare their Rangoli
• Participants will have to bring their own colours
• Strictly no flowers or grains or rice
• Each participant will get max of 30 minutes to complete the Rangoli. 
• Three best Rangoli (as decided by team of judges) will receive prize
• It will be a closed room competition and only participants will be allowed to perform the Rangoli (No additional help from any other person)
• Competition Date: Sunday, 9th September 2018 from 10.00 am to 10.30 am at MSJS Centre
